When a person you love has trouble with memory and thinking, it can be hard to know how to help them. There are many types of dementia, including the well-known Alzheimer’s disease, and each person may experience the illness differently.

There is no clear path of how to care for a person whose brain function is declining, but Agrace offers services that may be helpful over time.

 

Dementia Care Consultations

When a person begins to show signs of dementia, so many tough questions arise:

  • What care will be needed as the illness goes on?
  • How will we find or provide this care?
  • How will we make future care decisions?
  • How will we afford the care that’s needed?

If you’re a family member or caregiver of a person who has dementia and are unsure about next steps, start with a Dementia Care Consultation. Our dementia support specialist can meet with you to offer information and guidance, including which other Agrace services and other community resources may be most helpful. In order to make the most of your consultation, we recommend finding alternate care arrangements for your loved one with dementia during the consultation so you can speak openly and devote your full attention.

  • Dementia Care Consultations are available by phone or video call (using a tablet or computer with a web camera) across southern Wisconsin. If you are in the Madison area, an in-person consultation may be possible.
  • They are one-hour discussions about your unique situation.
  • The cost is $50 or $75 for a one-hour meeting or call, depending on your personalized needs.

Adult Daytime Care

For seniors with dementia/memory loss, the Agrace Adult Day Center in Madison is a bright, engaging place to enjoy activities and companionship. It’s a way to prevent a loved one from becoming isolated due to their memory loss.

This daytime care also gives family caregivers a break to refresh their energy while their loved one is in safe hands with plenty to do.

Palliative Care for Managing Symptoms and Stress

Agrace offers palliative care consultations across southern Wisconsin. These are specialized medical appointments with a palliative care practitioner that take place either virtually or where the patient lives.

The goal is to help a person who is living with dementia and their family cope better with their physical symptoms, behaviors and stress as the disease progresses. Learn more about this service here.

 

Hospice Care: Comfort in the Last Months of Life

For a person to be eligible to enroll in hospice care, two doctors must agree on that a patient is mostly likely in their last six months of life. Learn more here: Hospice Care

 

 

Agrace Dementia Village

The Ellen & Peter Johnson Dementia Village at Agrace is breaking ground in Spring 2026 at Agrace’s Madison campus. Agrace’s Dementia Village will be the first of its kind in the United States that’s being modeled closely on the internationally recognized Hogeweyk Dementia Village in the Netherlands.
